Wanted to share this video of the late great Doug Sahm and the Sir Douglas Quintet. Doug, Augie Myers and Johnny Perez from the original group were joined by Austin (and Semitough) favorite Alvin Crow and Speedy Sparks for this ACL performance in 1981. That’s my man Alvin in the red & white cutoff western shirt.

This was back in the day when ACL was something, before it went all SXSW headbanger. Oh well, music changed while I wasn’t looking.

On a personal note, Semitough and Esposa spent New Years Eve 1998 at the Broken Spoke in Austin and Doug Sahm sat at the next table for the show featuring Alvin Crow and his Pleasant Valley boys joined at various times by Johnny Gimble and James White. Doug joined Alvin onstage for a spirited country/rock version of “She’s About a Mover”, the Quintet’s big hit.
