Texas A&M will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. today to announce Wichita State’s Mark Turgeon as its new men’s basketball coach.

Hiring a mid-major coach with Texas recruiting ties worked once for athletic director Bill Byrne when he hired Billy Gillispie three years ago. Now that Gillispie has left for Kentucky after transforming an 0-16 Big 12 team into a Sweet 16 squad, Byrne looks to build on the success with Turgeon.
