Who Has Peeves for Pets?

Daily writing prompt
Name your top three pet peeves.

Pet peeves, road rage edition, here we go:

  • People who do not know how to enter a freeway. They poke down the onramp and basically stop until someone lets them in rather than stomping the gas pedal like Dale Earnhardt and making room for themselves. Don’t make your inability or unwillingness to accelerate my problem or we may swap paint.
  • People who drive the speed limit in the left lane on the highway. The left lane is made for people like me who’s only upper bound on freeway speed is my car’s top end. There are signs everywhere in most states “Slower Traffic Keep Right” and in some states like South Carolina that is a state law. But there is always some boy scout, or girl scout, speed limit abiding citizen that thinks to themselves “I’m driving the speed limit so they can go around.”
  • People who check their phones at red lights and sit through some, most, or all of the green. Normally they wake up in enough time so that THEY make the green but Mr. Two Cars Back has to sit through it again. Guess who is usually Mr. Two Cars Back? This guy.

That said, I enjoy driving most of the time. People who do the things above or similar can be annoying but nothing that should lead to the rage we see on our highways and streets. You see enough videos on social media that you should definitely be careful messing with folks because you never know who has a gun, a baseball bat, or the ability and wont to pull you out of your car and whip your ass at the next red light.

I’m from Texas, also known as the Road Rage Capital of the World, and there you don’t even honk at people out of fear. I was stuck behind a guy in the left turn lane once and they sat through the arrow because they were all distracted firing up a blunt. So I honked. The police officer behind me pulled me over and warned me that there was a state law prohibiting the use of your horn except to avoid an accident. You know road rage is a problem when it is illegal to honk your horn.

I’d like to see that police officer drive in India where horn honking on the highway is the national pass time.
