In the suburban jungle, weekends are the most dangerous times and require a true suburban guerilla to redouble his or her efforts in order to survive. This weekend was no exception for Semitough. Surviving trips to the mall, kid activities, and the dreaded weekend projects require cunning, skill, and daring.
We did OK this weekend. What with The Princess now driving her ownself around town we’ve really reduced the number of trips required to support her social life. Of course that comes with a comensurate amount of agony in a category all it’s own.
We did have one close call however. Esposa decided that Energizer Buddy needed a desk for his room. What with him being a fancy pants Middle Schooler and all. So we decided to take a trip to IKEA. Sounds simple right? Not so fast bucko. Now Semitough had heard of the IKEA and had a general idea of what it was…a big store full of foreign furniture and crap like that. Well, I’ve been to Super Walmart so no big deal, I can handle this. So off we go.
The cars lined up to get into this place should have been a tip off. Then when I saw the building itsownself I really should have been scared, it looked like a doublewide SuperWalmart stacked up on top of another Super Walmart. But no suburban spider sense was tingling so in we go.
Holy Guacamole! This place is nuts. Think mall at Christmas times 10 plus the candy aisle the night before Valentine’s day. I mean how many people could need Swedish hat racks in Texas in August?! One thing the Esposa did note though is that this place must be heaven for non-heterosexual male interior decorators (and we saw a few). But mostly it was just hoards of people pawing over linens and gadgets and picture frames and stuff. Believe me, I’ll be prepared IF Esposa ever gets me to go back.
Also a rare two movie weekend. Went to see World Trade Center on Friday night and then a matinee with Buddy to see Talledega Nights on Sunday. World Trade Center was good, not great, but good. Talledega Nights? What can you say? It met the stated goal of a comedy, it was funny.Ā
