Happy Thanksgiving

turkey_thanksgiving.jpgHad to run out to the grocery store for more Poultry Seasoning a bit ago and was struck by the Christmas music playing over the intercom and all the Christmas stuff up in the seasonal displays.

I pondered the possible reasons for Thanksgiving to be such an overlooked holiday. I mean after all it was Abe Lincoln’s idea and everybody loved him….well almost everyone. And we do get a four day weekend. How wicked is holiday that means not one extra day off but TWO!? What I decided was that Thanksgiving needs some music. Every recording artist alive has a Christmas compilation album, well maybe except for Muslim recording artists and a few Jewish artists. But most don’t do dick for Thanksgiving. So I started a Thanksgiving playlist. Here’s what I have so far, I’ve got to go eat turkey, watch football and play Guitar Hero so you all just chip in with your favorites in the comments:

  • The Thanksgiving Song by Adam Sandler
  • 99 Cent Bag of Chips by Thanksgiving from the Bro Zone album
  • My Sweet Potato by Booker T. and the MG’s
  • Thank You by Xzibit
  • Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) by Sly and the Family Stone
  • The Thanks I Get by Wilco
  • Thank You by Great White
  • Thanks For The Memories by Bob Hope & Shirley Ross

The last one made me turn a bit serious. With four family members in Iraq or Afghanistan and two more on the way. I am extremely thankful for those who would put themselves in harm’s way in service of our country. I thank God for their safety thus far and pray for an early and safe return for all our troops.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Update: Watching the 10 o’clock news the rugrats became enamored with the idea of camping out at the mall waiting for the stores to open. Finding myself goaded into a trip to the mall to scope things out (“Don’t be old Dad.”) they were tres disappointment to find that no one was camping there. There were however around 100 insane people lined up in front of Best Buy lured by the whiff of $400 laptops. Esposa will be in the crowd at the mall at 4 am lured by the whiff of an $18.88 Farberware Espresso machine. Magic 8 Ball?

Huh? You mean like there are stores open on Thanksgiving Day? Like all ours are closed on that day, eh.

Isn’t capitalism great?! Only another hour and a half or so till the malls open!
